The Media Resource Library (MRL) was conceptualized in 1998. The former Central Library has been upgraded to cater to the changing needs of our pupils. From consisting of mainly print materials that include fiction books, non-fiction books, reference books, dictionaries, encyclopedias and magazines, it now provides not only print but also non-print materials that include video tapes, VCDs, CD ROMs and listening tapes. A cosy Reading cum Listening Corner was set up in 1999 to promote the enjoyment of reading. The MRL is fully computerised with the implementation of the MERLIN system. It is open everyday from Monday to Friday (9a.m. to 5p.m.)and Saturday (10a.m. to 12p.m.). The MRL bustles with activities daily. Pupils can enjoy reading, listening to stories, watching video tapes, learning book-related IT skills, attend booktalk sessions or book computers in advance to use them for creative and project work. To further enhance the promotion of reading, teachers borrow books in bulk from the MRL termly for their pupils to share and exchange in class. The MRL Committee hopes to make the resources easily accessible to all users in the facilitation of life-long learning and effective teaching. |
